Hotel Lobby

On May 26, 2012 I led a collaborative City Souvenirs walk where we collected souvenirs of hotels in Midtown, New York City. It turned out to be one of the more mundane looking collections because most hotels, whether luxurious or average, new or old, all seem to have very smooth exteriors. Perhaps the lack of texture or defining features make guests able to project ‘home’ onto any hotel. One woman I met during this walk was particularly frustrated by this so she went into the hotel to hunt for something more exciting. To her dismay, even the interior of this hotel seemed bland but she finally found a mirror that was satisfactory and left her mark in the collection at 4:38pm.
